Bulky Items

You can check in your bulky baggage at the regular check-in counter of your airline. Bulky baggage includes all larger items of baggage that may not be transported via the automatic baggage compartment system.

The following list gives examples of bulky items:

  • Bags measuring larger than 0.85 m high, 0.65 m wide, and 0.45 m deep
  • Backpacks with straps
  • Skis
  • Baby carriages (prams)
  • Child seats
  • Parasols
  • Wheelchairs
  • Surfboards
  • Diving equipment and backpacks
  • Live animals in suitable transport containers
  • Bicycles

Please inquire when booking your flight whether your bulky luggage is subject to any special conditions. Like all checked luggage, these items also undergo security inspections in the airport’s luggage cellar.

The Best Way to Protect Bulky Items When Traveling

The Airport Luggage Service will be happy to help you. Transport boxes for animals and bicycles are usually in stock and can be picked up between one and two hours before your departure. You'll find the Airport Luggage Service in the B concourse of Terminal 1 (Arrivals). Make sure to call ahead sufficiently in advance at +49 (0) 69 690 - 51211.

The luggage claim areas of many other airports have special counters for picking up bulking items. Inquire before your departure where you'll have to go to get your luggage after arrival.
