Tips for Travel Preparation

Information for traveling with children

Check-in the evening before

Some airlines at Frankfurt Airport offer check-in the evening before. You can check in your luggage the evening before your trip. You will receive your boarding pass and can then go directly to security on the day of your trip. All details regarding any fees, check-in times, and other conditions for check-in the evening before can be found in the airline information.

Hand luggage

You should pack the following items for your child/children in your hand luggage:

  • Blanket to protect against the cool air from the aircraft air conditioning
  • Thick socks to protect against cold feet
  • Favorite cuddly toy
  • Small toys (toy weapons are not allowed in hand luggage!)
  • Picture book
  • Coloring book and crayons
  • Diapers and underwear for changing
  • Wet wipes for changing and for washing
  • Change of clothes for baby
  • Plastic bag for dirty clothes or diapers
  • Snacks for when they get hungry
  • Bottles and pacifiers
  • Necessary medication
  • Candy/chewing gum to help with pressure equalization during flight

Baby food

You may carry the amount of baby food and baby water required for the entire journey in your hand luggage if your child is under three years of age. Please note that you will need to unpack these items at the security checkpoint.

Baby bed

Inform your airline in advance if you are traveling with a baby. Many airlines provide baby beds on non-stop flights.

Stroller/Car Seat/Baby Car Seat

Most airlines carry child-specific bulky baggage, such as strollers, baby travel beds or child car seats free of charge and in addition to the normal baggage allowance. Please contact your airline directly for more information.

You can drop off your stroller for loading directly at the gate at most airlines.
