Frankfurt is full of art

Art lovers can satisfy their longing in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt is known far and wide for all the art treasures in its many museums, exhibitions, and galleries.

They include the Städel, officially called the Städelsche Kunstinstitut und Städtische Galerie, and the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History, one of the country’s largest of this type, all of which are well worth a visit. These belong to the Museumsufer, a group of 15 or so museums on the south bank of the Main River that are known for their diversity and high quality.

Since being painstakingly reconstructed to externally match the original structure (which was almost completely destroyed during the war), the Old Opera has been hosting some 400 events a year. Today, the historic façade hides a multifaceted concert hall.

The city’s best-known son is Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The Goethe House, formerly the residence of the Goethe Family, and the Goethe Museum next door to it are a great source of information about him.
