- In these areas, you and your carry-on luggage are checked just before you enter the departure gate
- Please note that the special rules on carrying liquids and gels on board of the aircraft also apply in this case, including any purchased duty-free items.
- If you are unsure whether you are allowed to carry a certain item in your hand luggage, contact your airline before leaving home to find out. It is a good idea to obtain written confirmation from the airline that the item in question is permitted.
- If you are denied permission to carry an item through the checkpoint and there is enough time until your flight departs, you may leave it in your car, turn it over to the airline to be carried as checked luggage, or give it to someone who has accompanied you to the airport but is not flying.
- You can also have the objects placed in a special white bag at the checkpoint. In this case, you receive a claim slip that you can use to retrieve them after your return at one of the luggage storage offices (Baggage Storage) or arrange for them to be sent to you.
Current notice
At some security checkpoints, new CT scanners are already in use, allowing liquids of up to 2 liters that do not need to be carried in a resealable bag.
However, since it is not possible to predict which security checkpoint you will pass through, we still recommend following the general rule (maximum 100 ml per container in a 1-liter bag) to ensure a smooth screening process.
Information on security check procedures and prohibited items
At the security checkpoint, you and your belongings are screened to make sure you aren't carrying any items that are prohibited by the guidelines of the EU or IATA.
Please note the following information and tips for the security check:
- No dangerous objects or liquids larger than 100 ml may be carried in carry-on luggage. These liquids must be stored in a transparent, resealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of 1 liter.
- Baby food and liquid medication may also be carried.
- You can avoid waiting times at the checkpoints by observing the following instructions:
- Leave small items such as keys or travel documents in your jacket or carry-on luggage.
- Remove bags with liquids and larger electronic devices (e.g. laptop, tablet, e-books) from your hand luggage and place them separately in the tray. Smartphones can remain in your hand luggage.
- Remove your jacket and belt and place both in the tray provided.
- If you are pregnant or have a pacemaker, shunt or valve (e.g. hydrocephalus, cochlear implant, etc.), please inform a security staff before passing through the metal detector.

Transfer security checks
Please note that EU regulations may require transferring passengers to clear an additional security check in some parts of Frankfurt Airport.
Carrying duty-free purchases on board
Your boarding pass authorizes you to purchase perfumes, cosmetics, liquors, wines, sweets, toys, games, and accessories at outstanding duty-free prices in our Travel Value and Duty Free Shops.
You may carry duty-free items purchased in a duty-free shop or on a commercial flight through the security checkpoint, provided that they are inside a transparent bag that was sealed by the sales staff when they were purchased. An externally readable document indicating the place and date of purchase must be included.
Please note that other rules may apply to liquids and gels in countries outside the EU. Especially if you will be transferring at Frankfurt Airport, it is essential for you to keep your purchases in the described sealed bags without opening them until you reach your final destination.
We therefore recommend that you inquire about the applicable rules on liquids and gels before beginning your trip, for example by contacting a consulate or embassy of the country you are traveling to.
