Events, open-air markets, and festivals in the city on the Main River
Diverse events take place in Frankfurt year-round. The highlights include the traditional Apple Wine Festival, the popular Museumsuferfest along the river, and the Rheingau Wine Fest.
Apple Wine Festival
At the Frankfurt Apple Wine Festival in August you can sample various kinds of apple wine, which is characteristic part of life in this city. There is also a colorful program of on-stage entertainment.
The Museumsuferfest takes place every year on the last weekend in August. It is one of Europe’s most spectacular cultural festivals.
Rheingau Wine Fest
At this event, the booths of a wine market in the Fressgass (a pedestrian street in central Frankfurt) serve more than 600 premium wines and Sekt sparkling wines.
The Dippemess takes place twice a year, in the spring and fall. This event is derived from traditional pottery fairs dating back to the Middle Ages. Today it is one of the region’s largest popular festivals.
Every year in the pre-Christmas season, central Frankfurt is transformed into a magical Christmas world. Enormous decorated trees on the Römerberg and St. Paul’s Square provide an impressive backdrop to hundreds of booths selling gifts, food and beverages.
