If you don’t live in the EU, you can get a refund on the value-added tax (VAT) you have paid on purchases within the EU. The maps show where you can find tax refund counters.
For merchandise you carry on board:
On the way to your gate, please stop at the customs office after the passport check. After obtaining the required customs stamp there, you can get your VAT refund (minus a service fee) a few steps farther at Global Blue, TaxFreeWorldwide, or Premier Tax Free (at the money changing counters of Travelex and International Currency Exchange).
For merchandise in your checked luggage:
When checking in at your airline's counter, let the staff know that you need an export confirmation slip from customs for items packed in your luggage. Your bags will then be tagged and you can show them to customs later.
Once you have obtained the customs stamp, your luggage is automatically routed to your flight. On the way to your gate, you can then collect your VAT refund (minus a service fee) at Global Blue, TaxFreeWorldwide, or Premier Tax Free (at the money changing counters of Travelex and International Currency Exchange).
You must present the merchandise itself if requested to do so. Please also have the completed export forms, your passport, and your boarding pass ready to show.
Declaring cash and cash equivalents:
Travelers leaving Germany must report cash and cash equivalents to the designated customs desk at the airport in writing and of their own accord before passing the security check if these exceed 10,000 euros.
