Rooftop open air deck

Refueling fresh air in the transit area

Whether for a smoke break, watching airplanes or just enjoying the sun: On our Rooftop open air deck in transit area you can take a break just before the flight.

You’ve dropped off your bags and cleared the security check … and still have a few minutes to wait before boarding begins. Time to catch your breath! And now you can do it in style: the transit zone of Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 1 has just gained a roof terrace. Besides fresh air, it boasts a spectacular view of the bustling activity at Germany’s largest aviation hub: ground handling, takeoffs and landings.  If you’re drawn to take a closer look, there’s a telescope you can use for free. A stand provides information about what’s going on down on the apron. And a monitor screen shows the weather report for the next few days, straight from the German Weather Service. Comfortable seating surrounded by plants rounds out the attractions.  The roof terrace is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and can be accessed by all passengers in the non-Schengen zone.

Visitors to the airport can naturally also enjoy the panoramic view of the apron and airfield from the Visitors’ Terrace, which is located on Level 4 (next to the Food Plaza) in the publicly accessible part of Terminal 2.
