Protestant airport chaplaincy

(Status: 04.04.2022)

The Protestant airport chaplaincy belongs to the Lutheran Church of Hessen and Nassau. Its door is open to everyone: travelers, employees and visitors.

Please turn to the chaplaincy if you

  • would like to speak confidentially with someone or require assistance,
  • are experiencing a crisis and need someone to listen to you and give you support,
  • would like to take advantage of a church service or rite (baptism, communion, wedding, blessing, funeral or memorial service), or
  • simply need a word of hope and encouragement.

The airport is a large, colorful and hectic place. Unexpected things and mishaps occur here. Employees suffer from stress and tension. Joy and sadness are often conmingled. According to Psalm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd”, God restores our soul. And we need restoration and refreshment at work and in our everyday lives in order to get closer to ourselves and God. Our three chapels here are islands of peace in a sea of tumult. They let you get back in touch with yourself and recharge your spiritual batteries.

Services, prayers etc.

A midday prayer service is held every Wednesday and Friday at 12 p.m..
Services on the Festivals of the liturgical calendar
Baptisms, weddings and blessings
Memorial services for deceased coworkers

Other activities in the Protestant chapels at the airport

Noon concert on the first Wednesday of each month, duration: 30 minutes
Meditative break on the third Wednesday of each month, duration: 15 minutes

Where you can find us

The Catholic chapel is located right next to our office on the mezzanine level of departure hall B in Terminal 1. Group services can be held and blessings given for travelers (if possible, with advance notification). During office hours it is also possible for priests to hold mass in our chapel (required items such as a chalice, sacramental bread and wine, etc. are available).

You can also attend a Catholic mass and receive Holy Communion at Frankfurt Airport. Mass is usually in German, but it is also possible to hold parts of it in English for large groups. Please talk to the priest beforehand.

Services for groups and priests (with advance notification)

Frankfurt Airport is a gateway to numerous places around the world, and many pilgrims start or finish exciting voyages here. Groups may use the chapel for their own prayers, devotions and services.

Please contact us beforehand if you wish to do so and let us know:

  • when you would like to use to use the chapel,
  • whether you will have your own priest or would like the airport chaplain to fill in, and
  • whether you require access to the sacristy and mass paraphernalia

We are also happy to assist groups visiting the airport that would like to learn about the airport chaplaincy.
