Star Hunters – New Worlds, Distant Galaxies

Star Hunters – New Worlds, Distant Galaxies

Take off straight into the cosmos: this AirXperience Day at Frankfurt Airport makes it possible!

The fascination of space travel and distant worlds: close enough to touch, with opportunities galore to join in the fun in both terminals. Science fiction fans and everyone else can count on having the time of their lives.

On December 13 from 10:00 to 18:00, Frankfurt Airport Takes Visitors on an Adventurous Voyage to Far Away Galaxies and Alien Worlds

FRA/sc-rap – Frankfurt Airport (FRA)’s final AirXperience Day of the year on Sunday, December 13, will become the extraordinary stage for “Star Hunters – New Worlds, Distant Galaxies” – an exciting program of events inviting visitors to reach for the stars. In cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA), Fraport AG will present space exploration at your fingertips in Terminal 2. Science fiction fans will also be treated to a phenomenal day in Terminal 1, where activities will focus on the highly anticipated new “Episode VII – The Force Awakens” of the Star Wars film saga.

Terminal 2 will feature the ESA Space Center, a large exhibition presented by ESA and the European Space Operations Center (ESOC) – located in the nearby science city of Darmstadt south of FRA – with fascinating exhibits about space and planetary exploration, satellite technology, human spaceflight, and remote observation of our Earth. This exhibition will run in Terminal 2 until December 20, 2015. On AirXperience Day, visitors will be able to learn first-hand about the wonders of our universe during various lectures and multimedia shows. Experts such as Europe’s “Rosetta Comet Chaser” Dr. Paolo Ferri and ESA astronaut Prof. Reinhold Ewald will introduce the audience to zero gravity and the infinity of outer space. ESA expert Prof. Mike Rast will talk about the challenges in observing and protecting the Earth and its environment – from space.

A talk show titled “Trends and Visions – Air Travel in the Future” will star a top-class panel comprising aviation and astronautics such as ESA director general Prof. Jan Wörner, as well as astronaut Ewald, and key representatives from Fraport and Virgin Galactic. The talk show will discuss future topics like the possibility of traveling from Europe – perhaps even FRA one day – to Australia in two hours via suborbital flights and whether tourists will eventually travel to the Moon regularly.

The Space Lounge will show impressive films including: “The European Space Mission Turns 50”, “The Mission of Astronaut Alexander Gerst”, “Europe’s Discoveries on Mars”, and “Space to Relax” (ESA/Lufthansa collaboration).

Space science and space travel have always stimulated the imagination of Hollywood. Of course, the AirXperience Day “Star Hunters” program will prominently feature activities relating to the long-awaited sequel of “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” – thus helping fans bridge the galactic gap until the film release in Germany on December 17. A large number of exhibits exploring the Star Wars saga will be available in Terminal 1. Visitors and passengers will be enthralled by the life-size figures of Chewbacca, Jar Jar Binks, Darth Maul, along with replicas of the Millennium Falcon spaceship and the famous Snowspeeder. Star Trek fans and space experts of ESOC’s Sci-Fi Club in Darmstadt will also be on board to boldly go where no Star Hunters have gone before!

The Saber Project Team will hold workshops – twice per hour from 11:00 to 18:00 – for young Jedis to train in the art of using the light saber. Sign-up lists for the workshops are available in the activity area. All Jedis are invited to bring their own light sabers.

The DLR School Lab, part of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), will present young visitors with fascinating space research and technology. The world’s biggest show robot, called NOX the Robot and measuring 2.4-meters tall, will be another star attraction on AirXperience Day. For the youngest star hunters, FRA will offer arts and crafts, face-painting and lots of spacy entertainment.

Join FRA’s Space Parade in the Terminals:

We call on all star hunters from planet Earth, remote galaxies, and from everywhere in between to attend FRA’s AirXperience Day in costume. Everyone is invited, whether you wish to dress up as an astronaut, Mr. Spock, Yoda or Darth Vader. As a special highlight, star hunters gathered at FRA will march through the terminals in three parades, led by members of the German chapter of the global 501st Legion fan club.

Our popular raffle will feature a galactic theme as well. All participants have a chance to win many attractive prizes including the top prize: a PlayStation 4 “Star Wars Battlefront Limited Edition” console.

Frankfurt Airport’s numerous shops and restaurants will also be open on AirXperience Day, offering ample opportunities for pre-Christmas shopping. A perfect way to round off your visit to FRA is to join in one of Fraport’s interesting Airport Tours, which can be booked in advance online, or to get a panoramic view of the bustling airport at FRA’s Visitor's Terrace.

On December 13 from 14:30 to 19:30, the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck will entertain visitors outdoors with its engaging stage program and various join-in activities – located at the P36 bus parking area opposite Arrivals Hall C of Terminal 1.

Everyone visiting AirXperience Day can park for four hours free of charge at Terminal 1 (P2 and P3 parking garages) and Terminal 2 (P8 and P9 parking garages). All other parking areas (including business parking, parking at The Squaire, short-term parking spaces, etc) are not included in this offer.
