FRA Is First Airport in Germany to Offer Free W-LAN Internet Access

Jan 13, 2012

FRA/rap> Effective immediately, Fraport AG – the owner and manager of Frankfurt Airport (FRA) – is enhancing Internet access at FRA by offering free 30-minute-long Wireless Local Area Network (W-LAN) Internet access to passengers and visitors at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). Frankfurt Airport is the first airport in Germany to offer free W-LAN access.

This new Fraport service is being implemented via Deutsche Telekom’s HotSpot portal. With just a few clicks users can go online to access their e-mails and other information via the Internet. With the introduction of free 30-minute W-LAN service, Fraport is achieving a significant improvement in the quality of stay at Germany’s most important air transportation gateway and is meeting the needs of an increasingly mobile and communications-linked world.

How does it work? Users at Frankfurt Airport simply activate the browser on their laptop or mobile device. By entering any address, users automatically land on a registration page where they can request an access code. Shortly afterward, the code is sent to the user’s mobile phone. This code allows the user to access Deutsche Telekom’s HotSpots at FRA to log on to the Internet. The free W-LAN session at Frankfurt Airport is limited to once per day and automatically ends after 30 minutes. Of course, users can continue surfing by buying a new access code with their credit card – only €4.95 per hour for additional W-LAN Internet access.
