Travel Tips & Checklist
Healthy Flying
We would like to make a few recommendations to help you cope better with the stress of long flights:
7 Tips for a Relaxed and Healthy Flight
- Drink plenty of liquid during the flight. The relatively low humidity on board the aircraft cause your skin and body to dehydrate faster. Fruit juices (without added sugar) and water are best.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages. Alcohol dilates the blood vessels and may cause your legs to swell faster.
- Get up out of your seat and take a few steps as often as you can. This will help your blood circulate.
- Wear comfortable, loosely fitting clothing.
- Wear glasses instead of contact lenses to prevent inflammation.
- Take an aspirin or other appropriate medication (consult your physician) to prevent the risk of thrombosis.
- Don't eat fatty foods. Also avoid coffee, black tea, cola and alcoholic beverages, because these cause your body to lose more liquid than they supply.
- The permitted size of checked and carry-on bags, weight allowances and rules and charges for excess luggage vary depending on the airline, destination and seat class.
- Don't take any sharp, pointed or dangerous items, especially not in your carry-on luggage.
- Keep your ticket, a valid passport or ID, and (if required) your visa handy.
- Charge your camera and mobile phone beforehand and take extra batteries.
- Obtain an appropriate plug adapter for the country you will be visiting.
- Obtain a small amount of local currency in advance for taxis, public transportation and tips.
- Make sure that your house plants, pets and home will be cared for you are gone. You may want to give a friend or neighbor an extra key.
- If you plan to take any animals with you, contact the airline prior to booking the flight.
