Building "fünfsiebzig"
Construction of a new cargo hall with adjoining office building in CargoCity South
In the middle of the Rhine-Main Region is CargoCity South at Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s most important air cargo centers. Located very close to the Frankfurt motorway interchange (where the A3 and A5 motorways intersect), CargoCity south is optimally connected to the national and European road network. A new freight hall with adjoining office building is now taking shape. It will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2010, with:
- A total of 6,000 sq.m of land
- A cargo hall comprising 3,700 sq.m of floor space including 300 sq.m of offices with sanitary facilities
- An outdoor area of 1,250 sq.m
- A five-story office building with 3,000 sq.m of usable space
- About 100 parking spaces very close to the building
- Controlled access via gates 31 and 32
Both the hall and the office building are equipped for a high standard of energy efficient. They are being planned and implemented to achieve a level of energy consumption that is 30% less than the ceiling set by the 2007 German Energy Saving Ordinance, thus also complying with the 2009 German Energy Savings Ordinance. This translates into decreased carbon emissions with a corresponding reduction in operating costs.
The following contribute to enhancing its status as a “green building”:
- State-of-the-art building insulation
- Ventilation system with highly efficient heat recovery
- Waterless urinals
- Water heating via a solar system
- Installation of a separate network for nonpotable utility water to reduce consumption of drinking water
What characterizes the new complex?
Description of the office building:
The five-story office building has total rental space of about 3,000 square meters. It is two floors higher than the cargo hall. Floors 4 and 5 receiving natural lighting from two sides. This makes it possible to configure not only group and open-plan offices, but also individual offices or a mixed layout. The offices feature:
- A planning grid of 1.35 x 1.35 m (thus ensuring very flexible space configuration)
- Outside sun blinds
- Hollow floors with connection boxes (for easy addition of cabling)
- A ventilation system
- Air conditioning
Description of the hall:
All systems of the single-story 3,700-sq.m hall are completely separate from those of the office building. It features:
- A clear ceiling height of 9.5 m
- Columns spaced in a grid of 18.5 m x 22 m
- Load-bearing capacity of the floor of 7,500 kg/sq.m
- Eight truck doors with four standard and two jumbo dock levelers
- Ramp access for vans
- Battery charging station for 8 forklift trucks
- Underfloor heating
- Hall offices with separate access from both the hall and the delivery zone
- Two separate sets of sanitary facilities, one for external personnel and the other for hall staff
- Electronic access control and video surveillance of doors
